Why you NEED to belong to the Western Carwash Association
Christina Shupe, WCA Membership

By now the industry is abuzz with the recent developments in Los Angeles. Two car wash owners have been sentenced to a year each in jail, a company has been fined over a million dollars, and the owners will be subject to "surprise" open book inspections for the next 4 years. Any new violations will lead to more jail time.

Boycot

From interviews, petitions, and applying pressure on local school boards, the CLEAN Campaign agenda is clear: Unionization through any means available.

"We are going to keep fighting until we have a union, because that's the only way that we are going to have real justice on the job." Luz Elena Oseguera - former carwash worker and union supporter"

Is this just a Southern California issue? If it is, why are the United Steel Workers involved? The USW has appeared at CLEAN hearings, provided support, and has solicited for the CLEAN campaign. While it isn't clear exactly how much support the United Steel Workers is providing in this effort, it is crystal clear that they are very much involved.

Are you prepared for a unionization effort at your business? Do you know what the law allows, which protections a business owner is afforded, and how to insure you don't inadvertently place your business and your livelihood in jeopardy?

"I don't have to worry", you say, "I'm not a criminal. My employees are happy!"

Consider these facts:

  • Nearly every month WCA receives a call from a car wash or detail shop owner who is facing a $10,000 fine (or more) because their paperwork wasn't in order for a state inspection
  • Ethical business owners trying to provide a convenience to employees face fines for allowing workers on property before their shift starts
  • State agencies are sending armed officers on unannounced visits and demanding to see payroll records
  • California collected nearly $2 million in fines over two 4-day periods this past year alone!

Can you afford to continue going it alone? You don't purchase insurance because you expect your home to burn down - you buy it because IF IT DOES, you don't want to have to face the problem alone. You want your insurance agent and your policy on your side.

WCA Members commit to playing on a level field and are recognized for their agreement to operate within the law. We provide members with educational opportunities and work closely with the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement to assure your voice is heard. Annual membership dues are only $150-$450 a year and have an immediate return on investment:

  • Call for an Employment Law consultation - $150 value
  • Attend the Annual Convention & Tradeshow - $200 savings per person
  • Exhibit at the Tradeshow - $300 savings per booth
  • Sign up with YRC - Potentially THOUSANDS in savings
